The swing motor is one of the "core hearts" of the excavator's hydraulic system, installed in the center of the upper swing platform. Its main functions can be summarized in the following three points:
360° Rotation: It converts the hydraulic energy (pressure and flow) provided by the hydraulic pump into mechanical energy (torque and speed). After the torque is amplified by the swing reducer, it drives the upper body of the excavator (cab, engine, working device) to achieve smooth, unlimited left and right 360° rotation.
Precise Positioning and Control:** During operations such as compound cutting, loading, and leveling, the swing motor, in conjunction with the distribution valve (main valve), can precisely control the start, acceleration, deceleration, and stop of rotation, ensuring the bucket lands precisely.
Hydraulic Braking and Locking:** Due to the excavator's significant inertia when working on slopes or dumping material, the swing motor integrates a swing brake valve (relief valve) and a mechanical brake disc. When the slewing operation stops, it quickly generates hydraulic damping for buffer deceleration and achieves safety locking when stopped or operating on a slope, preventing "slippage" or swaying.
II. How to Choose a Good Slewing Motor? (Purchasing and Selection Guide) Whether for factory use, export, or aftermarket replacement, choosing a high-quality slewing motor requires evaluation from the following core dimensions:
1. Material and Machining Precision of Core Components (Determines Lifespan)A slewing motor is a high-pressure, high-speed rotating component that frequently reverses direction.
Plunger and Cylinder (Nine-hole Plate): This is the most crucial friction pair of the motor. High-quality motors typically use high-strength copper alloys or specially heat-treated forged steel, offering strong wear resistance. If the machining precision reaches the micron level, it effectively reduces internal oil leakage and maintains high volumetric efficiency for a long time.
Valve Plate: It must possess extremely high hardness and flatness, able to withstand frequent pressure impacts without scratches or deformation.
2. Hydraulic Valve Assembly Performance (Determines Operability and Safety)The top of the swing motor typically integrates a complex valve assembly (overload flush valve, anti-slip valve, brake valve, etc.).
Buffering and Anti-Sway Capability: A good motor's valve assembly is very smoothly tuned. When the swing stops, the excavator's upper body will not produce violent shaking or metallic clanging sounds ("nodding" or "tail swing"), but will brake smoothly to a stop.
Sealing Reliability: Valve cores and skeleton oil seals (such as commonly used NOK oil seals) must be resistant to high temperatures and high pressures to prevent external or internal leakage after long-term operation, which could lead to motor weakness.

How to Identify a High-Quality Final Drive:
1.Observe the Machining Precision of the Final Drive
Gear Material and Heat Treatment: High-quality gears are typically made of high-strength alloy steel (such as 20CrMnTi) and undergo deep carburizing and quenching. Observe the tooth surface; high-quality gears have an extremely high surface finish, appearing slightly bluish or dark gray, without machining marks.
Floating Seals: This is the last line of defense against mud and sand ingress and gear oil leakage. High-quality floating seal rings are made of wear-resistant and elastic material, with a flat mounting surface and no burrs.
2. Test the Performance of the Hydraulic Motor
Volume Efficiency (Internal Leakage): This is a core indicator. A high-quality motor has minimal internal leakage when climbing hills under full load, maintaining stable output. This can be judged by testing the overflow pressure: a motor that easily reaches the set value and maintains stable pressure is of better quality.
Starting Torque: Observe whether the excavator starts slowly under heavy load. A high-quality motor has extremely high starting torque, providing instantaneous burst of power.
3. Detailed Workmanship and Housing Strength
Casting Quality: A high-quality motor case uses high-grade cast steel or ductile iron, with a thick outer wall and a well-designed heat dissipation fin. The surface should be free of pores, sand holes, or repair marks.
4. Operational Status Monitoring
Operating Noise: A high-quality motor assembly emits a uniform, low-pitched "humming" sound. Sharp metallic friction sounds or periodic knocking sounds indicate substandard gear precision or the presence of foreign objects.
